Allen Iverson Gets Cheered Back in Philly!!!

Love him or hate him Allen Iverson is one of the iconic figures in Basketball from the last 30 years. The enigmatic hoopster from my home town of Hampton, VA. for many years changes the rules of the game both on the court and off of it with his gritty play and signature hip hop stylings.

It was good to see him get so much love from the fans in Philly. We all know they don’t pass out cheers very easily. Kudos to you Allen AKA Bubba Chuck!

Who Are The Top Female Singers of All Times

By Miguel Lloyd

The Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige not on the list?

So RadioFacts.com released their lists of the top female singers of all time. For the most part it is hard to deny most of the people on this list. However, I’m not sure if having Rachelle Ferrell but not Mary J. Blige or Jill Scott is a complete list.

Not to mention, are we strictly talking the last 50-60 years, because any lists that does not include Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughan is lacking. Still for the most part, the list was pretty good, but there are some glaring omissions.

Here is the list

  1. Aretha Franklin
  2. Patti Labelle
  3. Chaka Khan
  4. Etta James
  5. Gladys Knight
  6. Natalie Cole
  7. Phyliss Hyman
  8. Dionne Warwick
  9. Whitney Houston
  10. Mariah Carey
  11. Rachelle Ferrell
  12. I will let this one be a mystery. You’ll have to go to the blog to see it.

What do you think. Who is missing off of this list?

This week on #LFCRadio we will be talking the current state of Black Radio.

A couple of weeks back, NYC experienced what many of us have experienced for years. The destruction of what many of us grew up knowing as black radio. Black Radio is now known in radio and more importantly, advertising circles as, “urban” and “contemporary hits radio.” It is no longer about local personalities like Donnie Simpson, The Boodah Brothers (RIP DJ Law), or DJ Red Alert. It is about finding that lucky jock that has the marketability and work ethic of a Tom Joyner to become the one voice that blacks go to for dialogue. But with that comes great responsibility. How do you entertain, but yet not be a buffoon? How do you inform but not come off boring? And then there is the music.

Well, as I was reading about NYC losing Kiss FM and thus losing Tom Joyner and Michael Baisden, it prompted me to write the blog Hey NY, You’re Losing Black Radio? We Know Your Pain! Than, I talked to the #LFCRadio team and decided its time to talk about it! Tonight we will have Cheryl Wilkerson on as our guest. Cheryl was a part of the long running Supreme Team Morning Show on WOWI-FM radio in Norfolk, VA. We are going to dig into the current state of black radio. Of course, to know where you are and where you are going, you have to know where you came from. We will dig into some of the history and evolution of the industry!

Tune in! Chime in! Tell a friend!

This week on Life Full Circle Radio, we will have Filmmaker DeShaun Davis of the 55TillNow Project. We will also have the young actor Jonah Lampkin, who will embody Emmett Till.

55TillNow will be the docudrama focused on the Emmett Till story. If you don’t know about Emmett Till, he was a 14-year-old young man from Chicago that visited his family in Mississippi only to be murdered for whistling at a white woman. See the full Wikipedia here. Davis’ goal is to use this story to actually create healing. Visit www.55tillnow.com for more details.

We will talk about the importance of this project with Davis, as well as get Lampkin’s take on how important it is for his generation to understand the impact of this story.

With the reality of tragedies like Trayvon Martin becoming more visible, there has been a lot of conversation about who Emmett Till is. The goal of this film, is to educate the viewing public on this very important story in American history. The conversation will start, right here on Life Full Circle Radio.

Join us and tell a friend to join the conversation!
