This week on Life Full Circle Radio, we will have Filmmaker DeShaun Davis of the 55TillNow Project. We will also have the young actor Jonah Lampkin, who will embody Emmett Till.

55TillNow will be the docudrama focused on the Emmett Till story. If you don’t know about Emmett Till, he was a 14-year-old young man from Chicago that visited his family in Mississippi only to be murdered for whistling at a white woman. See the full Wikipedia here. Davis’ goal is to use this story to actually create healing. Visit www.55tillnow.com for more details.

We will talk about the importance of this project with Davis, as well as get Lampkin’s take on how important it is for his generation to understand the impact of this story.

With the reality of tragedies like Trayvon Martin becoming more visible, there has been a lot of conversation about who Emmett Till is. The goal of this film, is to educate the viewing public on this very important story in American history. The conversation will start, right here on Life Full Circle Radio.

This week on #LFCRadio we are going to talk about the War of Women that both President Obama and his opponent for November, Mitt Romney have claimed the other is raging.

If you are a “lefty”, you are first going to talk about the conservatives position on women’s rights to have control of their bodies, more specifically, to have “abortions or not” is not the states choice but the women themselves.

If you are a “righty”, you stick by your guns in saying that women should not be given the choice of having abortions. They have gone as far as attempt in my home state of Virginia to pass a law that would make it mandatory to administer ultrasounds that would require vaginal probes against the collective wills of many women.

If you are a “lefty”, you believe that women have never been paid equal to men for doing the same work. Women such as Lilly Ledbetter, have fought so hard that an act was named after here.

If you are a “righty”, you support either overtly or through your complicity in your silence, that the problem with equal pay either is a myth or is a work in progress that is not determinant to receive their vote. When challenged on this recently, the presumptive GOP nominee, Romney, was hesitant in responding to the question on whether he supported the Ledbetter Act ( “Does Gov. Romney support the Lilly Ledbetter Act?”.) Maybe it’s because, as he so eloquently expressed, “Corporations are People too“. His corporate “people” friends, don’t really want to pay the women who work for them equal pay to the men who work for them.

Than last week, the “lefty” Hillary Rosen, made a comment about Anne Romney, not ever have had a “job”, which was a softball to “righties” to claim that the Dems don’t respect stay at home moms. Of course stay at home moms are to be respected for the real work they do day-to-day. I just wonder how much the multi-millionaire, Romney did daily to raise her boys. I can’t see her folding mounds of socks or carting them around to all of their soccer games. She probably had a “staff” for that. But admittedly I’m being a little presumptuous. Just a little.

So with the general election season just kicking off, we will do the same thing. We will have the current President of the Florida Federation for Republican Women, Cindy Graves as our guest. We will dig into her position on these issues and others.

This week on #LFCRadio we are going to talk about Kids and Race.

We we’re inspired to do this show this week after watching a special program that the Anderson Cooper team did for CNN last weekend. It was called “Race Relations: Through The Eyes of a Child.”

There were children ranging in age from 6 to teens in high school. It showed the difference in how we perceive ourselves as blacks and whites. How black kids are thought to be mean or to be thieves, while white kids are generally thought to be empathetic and kind. It also showed how those thoughts are shaped at home, whether the parents want to own up to it or not. There were disheartening stereotypes coming from kids who were white and black. Elementary aged to the teenagers.

Check out the video, if you missed it live, and join us tonight. Our guest will be Dr. JeffriAnne Wilder. She specializes in race and colorism.

This week on #LFCRadio we are going to talk about the power of a strong marriage.

Depending on what TV shows you spend your spare time watching, you might think shows like, Basketball Wives or The Real Housewives of Atlanta represent what relationships look like. These shows that are full of more failed relationships than…well, in spite of their names, marriages.

In TV land, somehow gone are the Cosby’s and in are more characters and shows about the drama that ensues from relationships, that in many cases were never marriages and were never going to be marriages because there are many who feel it is a failed institution. The industry is preying on that perception. There is an increasingly dangerous narrative, that marriage is not what it once was. Marriage is not needed. Living with someone, having kids together, sharing your long-term dreams and aspirations with someone who has the option to walk away is the new “marriage.”

Well the reality is there are more failures than successes with those types of relationships. All while defending this type of relationship has become more popular to take in public, there are a ton of lonely men and women longing for the security that a strong committed relationship provides. They are regretting the fact that, despite having beautiful children as a result of these relationships, they wish they didn’t have to look in to those children’s eyes and respond to the questions of, “Why isn’t daddy around?” “Why can’t you and mommy get along.” They wish they could work out their differences between them, instead of down at the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

We have been conditioned to believe that there are more negative connotations with marriage than there are benefits. As a society, we spend more time fighting about, the problems with homosexual unions than the benefits of heterosexual ones.

Well, this week, we are going to explore the huge benefits of marriage. We are going to remind some and teach others about The Power of Marriage. Our guest this week will be Pastor Kevin Swann of Kevin Swann Ministries and who also serves as the Senior Pastor of Ivy Baptist Church in Newport News, VA. Pastor Swann is 15 year veteran of both ministry and marriage. We are going to dig into the many benefits that come from being in a strong committed relationship.
